Who We Are

The Cahaba-Coosa Chapter, Alabama Society, Sons of the American Revolution was sponsored by the Birmingham Chapter and on 3 May 2003 was approved at the Alabama Society Board of Managers Meeting as the 15th chapter to be chartered into the Alabama Society. The Cahaba-Coosa Chapter Institution Ceremony and Charter Banquet was held on Friday, 22 August 2003, at the Pelham Civic Complex in Pelham, Shelby County, Alabama.

All of our members are men eighteen years or over, who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who supported the war for American Independence. These ancestors are referred as Revolutionary War Patriots and include persons who fought in the military and/or militia, who provided supplies to the American cause, who served on political bodies supporting the Revolution, who signed oaths of support and similar acts. Membership is not restricted by race, religion, or ethnic background but blood lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution must be proven via genealogical records.

Our organization is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and promoting education to our future generations. Our members volunteer each year in our local communities in various activities. We support active duty personnel as well as veterans. We assist local schools with living history interpreters and demonstrations, lesson planning materials and scholarship awards. Our Color Guard participates in reenactment events as well as patriotic celebrations.

We meet once a month on the third Sunday of the month at the North Shelby County Library (5521 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242) on Highway 119/Cahaba Valley Road.
