Just as patriotism is one of our core goals, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) also promotes programs related to the proper use and display of the American flag. One such program is the presentation of flag certificates to individuals, corporations, businesses, fire departments, police departments, schools, libraries, etc. that properly display the American Flag.
To facilitate a flag certificate presentation, a nomination is made (see link below) to our chapter's flag committee for review and approval. Once approved, arrangements are made so that a framed flag certificate, suitable for display, is either presented in person or at a chapter meeting with various dignitaries and the chapter's color guard present.
Information related to flag etiquette and display can be found below.
In addition to Flag Certificates, the Sons of the American Revolution can also...
Facilitate the collection and destroying of worn or soiled flags via a flag retirement ceremony.
Attend youth organizations, such elementary schools, church groups, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc. and educate the youth about proper respect for the flag and its history.
Organize a special flag recognition event for Flag Day or similar occasion.
