Cahaba - Coosa Chapter
Sons of the American Revolution
Chartered 22 August 2003 in Pelham, Shelby County, Alabama
The Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and teaching American history to future generations.
Founded in 1889 and headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is the largest fraternal genealogical organization in the country. Membership is open to any man who is 18 years or older - regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background - who can prove blood lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Sponsored by the Birmingham Chapter, the Cahaba-Coosa Chapter was founded in 2003 as part of the state of Alabama SAR to serve the fast growing area of the Birmingham, Alabama metropolitan area. Most members come from Shelby and surrounding counties, which are located between the Cahaba and Coosa rivers that hold such great historical significance to the state, appear on the Alabama Great Seal, and are home to the final resting place of numerous Revolutionary War veterans. Our members volunteer countless hours in their communities, support active duty military personnel, assist veterans, advocate for first responders, work with educators, participate in living history demonstrations, champion historic preservation, and assist with genealogical research.
